Description: 

In this session, participants will learn how to analyze, unpack and use DC ELS Standard 19 – Investigates living things. Participants will engage in hands-on experiences to help children identify living from non-living things beginning with their own bodies. Young children love using their senses to explore the wonders of the world around them including themselves, pets, outdoor animals and plants. Participants will identify various supportive practices that provide children opportunities to care for and observe plants and animals. During the session, participants will identify ways to explore and observe their immediate environments with their children.

  • Early childhood - early (birth-36 months)
  • Early childhood - middle (36-60 months)
