Description:

This four-part series is designed to orient early childhood educators to the foundational content necessary for deeper study of equity, cultural responsiveness and the implications they have in early childhood education (ECE) environments. The series will allow ECE educators to examine their own biases or expectations toward children of diverse backgrounds. It will also offer an environment where educators can safely discuss and identify anti-bias solutions to support a culturally responsive learning environment for young children and their families.

This module synthesizes the key outcomes from the previous three modules: knowing the importance of understanding culture, identity and equity; understanding one’s own implicit biases, the biases of others and strategies to mitigate them; and recognizing the impact of poverty and privilege and their relationship to equity. Participants will reflect on key considerations when it comes to planning for and fostering equitable environments in ECE workplaces.

This course addresses the following age band(s):

  • Early childhood - early (birth-36 months)
  • Early childhood - middle (36-60 months)
  • Early childhood - late (5-8 years)
